I love the movie - it also holds some sentimental value for me. I read the book, but, it's actually one of the few movies I like better than the book.

I hope this is good, I'll agree I'm also worried about the heavy CGI with little story. This guy did 300 right? That was flashy, but less substance. If it comes out that way it'll be a shame...

You might try starting with a program like Fruity Loops, which lets you (obviously as you might think) work with loops. Rhythm loops, bass loops, etc. They have a lot of samples to work with...
