I would a watch to commemorate an event. Paintings are different than tattoos. Tattoos were originally used as a sign to mark a young boys coming of age. I just prefer to view tattoos in that light...

Find out where your local shops are and just head in. Ask to see their book of tattoos or they might have them hanging up and you'll see past examples of work they have done.

Why would they? They are getting paid for it regardless. Also it isn't their decision to make it's the person that is getting the tattoo. The responsibility of it is solely on them.
