I doubt it was because of Tim. Good production can take the punch out of some music, which is probably what happened with you. I, however, like the singing as opposed to the screaming at the start of...

Tim was the bassist and back-up vocalist (mostly for screams), and Frank replaced him. Thomas Erak has always been and always will be the guitarist and lead vocalist.
