^^^ Yeah that should be it. Thinking about it now, Stockhausen would make a lot more sense for influencing Throbbing Gristle than Penderecki.

Krzysztof Penderecki, perhaps? Not an 'avant-garde composer' by definition but some of his work kind of suggests it.
