I have heard this, that cats meow pretty much just for the sake of communicating to people.

I'm sure there are a few that enjoy it, but it's not typically required of a cat owner to walk it on a leash a few times per day. For me, that's an example of dog-neediness.

I think cats have qualities inherently more...

I think cats have qualities inherently more appealing to some types of people than others. I like dogs, but I don't love them and I've never had one. I will say that they strike me as very needy...
