I'd definitely put Fleet Foxes well ahead of Bon Iver musically, and it's hard to ever see that changing when you look at both their first two albums

Most of their contemporaries definitely feel limited by what you describe, including Bon Iver. The folk-rock of Fleet Foxes is more melodic and old fashioned, and I see that as a good thing.
