From what? Post-punk? Probably it's reliance on effects, guitar and production wise. Lots more reverb than any indie rock, post-punk, or alt rock before it's inception.

Nah, I'd say Shape definitely steers more towards post-hardcore. There aren't an awful lot of moments when they aren't doing something creative on that album. Listen to more hardcore and you'll see...
