I have heard of this film but have never seen it. I would rather watch films like this than most of today's big budget "blockbusters" which spend huge sums on effects and big time actors but apparently nothing on an interesting script.

I'd give it a 3/5 rating. Entertaining but not an essential flick in the "noir" genre.

I agree with you about contemporary films. I rarely have any interest in seeing newer releases of any genre. Most of what I watch these days is from the 1930's through 1970's.
