Reach Out

It's dangerous where we're at right now
Taking it in turns to start the rows
See I know you oh so well
Which makes it harder to leave
It's a scary place to be we know
At the end but not letting go
I've got your things
and they're staying with me
All of us huddled round the bar
the tables have gone and it's left a mark
With no one near me I can drown myself
And you can't say anything
Leave me to die I say with a sigh
I don't know cos I haven't said goodbye
I rub your ego and you rub my back
While it's all going down the sink....

(Down the sink now)

CHORUS
Reach out and touch me tonight
Not there, not there yet but you'll be alright
Reach out and touch me tonight
Not there, not there yet but you'll be alright

Sparkling water is all I'm having
Which arse tonight will I be grabbing?
Not yours, cos you're the one I like
Jealousy is new to me
I've felt it now so I'm free
Within myself and my rights
Plastic wrapping sugar coated
Think of a love song tonight I've wrote it
Glass in hand putting on a show
Freedom fighter morning rewriter
Object of my desire
Come close and I won't let you go

CHORUS
Reach out and touch me tonight
Not there, not there yet but you'll be alright
Reach out and touch me tonight
Not there, not there yet but you'll be alright

I like it alot. The only problem I have with it is,

Jealousy is new to me
I've felt it now so I am free

It seems kind of forced, maybe i'm instead of I am? Maybe its just how you talk thing, but it doesn't sound right to me.

Editted for your viewing pleasure!

sleepy jack 07-22-2006 08:45 PM

Ahh thank you, love it now.

beat_monkey 07-23-2006 08:00 AM

i think this is a great song. how do you write songs like this? experience? are they made up on the spot?

TrampInaTux 07-24-2006 02:16 AM

This song was made up on the spot... I usually do that for a lot of the songs I put up on MB, cos it's easier to think of new songs when typing because you haven't got the hassle of scribbling out lines etc.

Blain 07-24-2006 02:53 AM

Lol the chorus acctually reminds me of Someday by Nickelback, I dunno why but it does

Good job Hobo

beat_monkey 07-24-2006 03:27 AM

great sig blainka

DontRunMeOver 07-24-2006 02:09 PM

I've recorded the song down now Hobo. It'll be up at:

www.myspace.com/imjustsingin

In the next ten minutes or so, provided myspace doesn't go all **** on us again.

I structured the lyrics and removed a section, to make it a better length. I changed a bit of the chorus too, to improve the musical phrasing. Now the lyrics are:

VERSE

It's dangerous where we're at right now
Taking it in turns to start the rows
See I know you so well
Which makes it harder to leave

It's a scary place to be we know
At the end but not letting go
I've got your things
They'll be staying with me

VERSE

All of us huddled round the bar
the tables have gone and it's left a mark
Drown myself here
And you can't say anything

Leave me to die I say with a sigh
That’s all you’re getting, I’m not saying goodbye
Pour my emotions with the ***s and dregs
Down the sink....

CHORUS

Reach out
And touch me tonight
Not there
Yet but you'll be alright
Reach out
And touch me tonight
I’ll wait impatiently
For…
For…

VERSE

Plastic wrapping sugar coated
Think of a love song tonight I've wrote it
Glass in hand
Putting on a show

Freedom fighter, morning rewriter
Object of my desire
Come close
And I won't let you go

CHORUS

Reach out
And touch me tonight
Not there
Yet but you'll be alright
Reach out
And touch me tonight
I’ll wait impatiently
For…
For…

CHEEEEEEEERS

Did you sing it?

DontRunMeOver 07-24-2006 02:11 PM

Of course, what did you expect?

TrampInaTux 07-24-2006 02:14 PM

I had no idea to be honest. I would ask you all the questions but I'll suprise myself now when I listen to it :) at the moment I'm just mega chuffed that my songs been recorded, even if I'm not the one to do so. And also, what's this recording thing that you're using?

DontRunMeOver 07-24-2006 02:26 PM

Cubase, an audio-technica PRO22a dynamic mic (a stage/practise vocal mic), a YAMAHA MG10/2 mixing console (a little one, for amplifying the signal from the mic) and a guitar. I recorded the guitar down to a click first through the mic, then recorded the vocal seperate to it. Then I delete a bit at the beginning of the vocal track to account for the latency (time delay) in the system, add a bit of compression and reverb to correct for the proximity effect of the dynamic mic (you don't get room acoustics with a dynamic mic, so you have to add them) adjust the levels and the mix it down. And voila, there's our song!

TrampInaTux 07-24-2006 02:29 PM

There was me thinking you could get a music programme where you don't need any of the gadgets and expensive equipment, you just get guitar backing beats to make it sound like you've got a badn behind you and you can just sing over it.

Can you get one of those? Cos I'd be well on my way if you could.

DontRunMeOver 07-24-2006 02:45 PM

The program I've got allows you to put in a few instruments. Its only really useful for drums and basslines, but its a start.

Beyond this you definitely need:
1. A microphone to put the voice through. Mine would probably cost £15-20 if I ebayed it now.
2. Guitars, if you want guitar backing. Computerised guitars don't sound like guitars. Computerised drums and bass and keyboards can be pretty realistic though.

The mixing desk makes the sound clearer and louder, but you can still get enough for a song without anything amplifying the signal before it gets to the computer.

In other words, if you just want to rap or sing to drum and basslines, you can get away with just a mic and a recording program. If you want guitars, then for a basic sound you can just use a cheap acoustic and put it through the same mic you use for the vocals.

DontRunMeOver 07-24-2006 02:45 PM

On a seperate note... what the hell is taking my song so long? I put it there twenty minutes ago now.

TrampInaTux 07-24-2006 02:50 PM

Can you tell me when it is up please? My computer is going to slow and I can't afford to load up different sites at the moment.

DontRunMeOver 07-24-2006 02:58 PM

Will do. I'll see if I can put the song somewhere else and link it until myspace hurries up.

DontRunMeOver 07-24-2006 03:09 PM

The song is there. Let me know if there's a problem with it.
