Like a wake behind us
Showing steps that were skipped

How euphoric we become
When affection sedates
Our feet take life captive
As a pair of ice skates

We ventured to the middle
The warm land departing
Thin ice cold and brittle

Small puddles quickly dilate
When wariness is waived
Cracks reverberating
