Vacation Dream
 

The sun that set over the Atlantic decorated the sky in
Elaborate fashion, “You can walk away if it makes you
Feel okay.” The apparent skyscrapers became adorned with
The most vibrant of pinks and oranges as you took my hand
For a fifth and final flight. We are more so like fish than
We could ever manage to understand; the waves undulating
Up and out of our skin make this moment feel worthwhile.
I’d take up roots on this shore if it didn’t mean I’d be spirited
Away regardless, the enchantment of the gulls is what led me
Here and their note will also be my most desperate.
I ask you, even though I already know the answer, it seemed
Like the right thing to do, and your response was the correct one.
You’ll be someone else’s vacation dream in another month or two.
