I Can Fly So High

Here are the lyrics to a song I wrote:

Ever since I first met you

I knew what I was meant to do

To love you with all my heart

and to never let us grow apart

And even when the times are hard - ddddddd

I will never leave you scarred - dddddddd

I will always let you know - wwwwwwww

I can fly so high

when you're right here by my side

Through the good times and the bad

and even when I'm down and sad

You mean everything to me

and you're all I want to see

I wannna be with you

for the rest of my life

Whenever I go out with you

I sit and think of us its true

You will always be in my heart

and things will never fall apart

And even when the times are hard - ddddddd

I will never leave you scarred - dddddddd

I will always let you know - wwwwwwww

I can fly so high

when you're right here by my side

Through the good times and the bad

and even when I'm down and sad

You mean everything to me

and you're all I want to see

I wannna be with you

for the rest of my life

I can fly so high

when you're right here by my side

Through the good times and the bad

and even when I'm down and sad

You mean everything to me

and you're all I want to see

I wannna be with you

for the rest of my life

good song man.. the lyrics are simple but expressive. I really like the bridge!

The song's really not bad, but here's my general advice.

First of all, sing from your gut, and not from your nose. If you hold your nose while you're singing and sound like you have a cold, that's how you know you're too nasaly. Try it.
If you're having a hard time with that, I'll cover your song for you and send it back. I'll cover it the way you're singing and the way you can change it.

Second of all. The lyrics are simple. There's nothing special about them.
There's nothin wrong with the.
Honestly, after I heard the video, I minded them less.

Third of all, you're great with playing your chords, they're clean cut and well played.
I've been playing for a while now, and even I have a hard time with playing that way sometimes.

Overall, it wasn't that bad, though.

thanks guys, I appreciate the input

how often do you practise in front of an audience? i think you need to get out there and play a few short sets. there's probably heaps of open mic night near where you live.

i agree with awwsugars comments and i have something to add to them - it's opinion so take it or leave it - but that song really lacked dynamic. my biggest pet peeve is seeing someone play a song, or listen to a song that sounds the same all the way through. sometimes the writer will do it on purpose and it works, but with that song it didn't.

now i'm not saying you should go ape**** and change the time signature or anything, just work on how you play and sing; pause the tiniest bit at arbitrary moments, whisper words, etc. pull at people's heartstrings. it'll make them want to listen attentively.

I think it's good for a beginner, though, you know?

OceanAndSilence 12-05-2009 06:27 PM

i didn't say it was bad, plus he's written a few songs

MeAndMyAcoustic 12-05-2009 08:36 PM

Yeah I don't play in front of people that often, I have played a few times at school when we have open mic nights but that is about it, and yeah I know its the same all the way through, I think I have a hard to adding variation to my songs, but I will try in the future. Also I don't worry about telling me your opinion, I won't get offended, I am an art student so I can take critiques well and I will use what I can from them. Anyways thanks a lot :)
