What Bands And/Or Musicians Inspired You
 

I was heavily inspired by Nirvana, Queens Of The Stone Age, Tool, Slipknot.

Though the later hasn't inspired me only to pick up an instrument and make music. The other three inspired my sound drastically.

ELO, radiohead, all disney songs, movie soundtracks :D

I don't create too much music of my own although I learn and play a lot of other people's music. The artists that make me want to actually create my own music would be Jandek, Daniel Johnston, Current 93, Pale Cocoon, Aphex Twin and William Basinski. They don't so much inspire my sound as inspire me to create music so I can eventually find my own sound. I also feel inspired to create by bands like The Microphones, Smog, Songs: Ohia, Boris and Swans, although my actual sound is mediocre and has a long way to go.

Other major influences include John Cage (of course), the developments in non-narrative minimalism from the New York Hypnotic School (composers like La Monte Young, Terry Riley, Philip Glass, and Steve Reich), as well as their European contemporaries like Michael Nyman and Arvo Pärt, each of whom contributed their own unique element to the development of experimental music in the 20th century as well as some of the founding manifestoes of experimental music theory.)

Later, I found similar inspiration from both the Cologne and Berlin schools of kosmische musik and the early electroacoustic experimentations of sound poets from Hugo Ball onward.

And finally, I'd like to credit Metallica, those insufferable douches, for inspiring me to explore the history of copyright law, the culture of file sharing technologies, and the miracle of evolution which enabled Lars Ulrich to walk erect.

I was first inspired by heavy rock bands such as UFO, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and some metal like Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden... Things that inspire me now are some jazz stuff like snarky puppy and some indie or soft rock things such as tame impala and travis

I'm inspired by a plethora of artists, everything from The Beatles to Def Leppard.

Captain Beefheart taught me that dissonance and cacophony are both more fun to make and more interesting to listen to.

John Cage inspired my music philosophy like no other, but I've never actualized it except for my indeterminate pieces.

Marc Ribot, Keiji Haino, Richard Dawson, and Derek Bailey all shaped my guitar style.

Han Bennink, Paal Nilssen-Love, and the King of Sludge inspired my drumming style (love Drumbo, but our styles are not similar at all)

Peter Brötzmann is my saxophone muse.

Piano - Alexander Von Schlippenbach and Cecil Taylor for the chaos, McCoy Tyner for the beauty.

Vocals - Pandit Pran Nath was the first Eastern vocalist I was into, and he opened up that world for me and inspired pretty much all of my vocals. The Residents and Les Claypool also inspired my idea that if you can't really sing, go weird with it and embrace your non singingness.
