Creating arrangements with space, while still feeling full

Well, it's pretty much all in the title. I figure there's probably some talented songwriters on here, and ppl who've been trained in the subject; so what are your thoughts on the matter? What techniques do you use to implement space in your songs, while not sacrificing the fullness/richness of the sound?

I often just double the tracks.

Say you record a guitar, produce it enough for it to feel „full”, then I copy the track, turn the volume way down, add reverb and auto-panning. If you stack up enough instruments this way you get the full sound of the song, with space that is more felt than heard.

This is my personal case. I'm adding a bit of reverb (for example Valhalla- Supermassive or delay) not so much but a little bit just to give some space on instrument.
