Where's the Motown thread?

Pardon me, everybody, but I've been listening to Stevie Wonder's "Talking Book" for a while, and it's gotten me interested in doing a little research on The Supremes and Fontella Bass. If anyone has resources or opinions as to the best albums by either, please let me know! For just a little more info on my preferences, I'm a huge fan of Bass's tune "Rescue Me."

I'm not joking when I say 'Diana Ross and The Supremes - 'The Ultimate Collection' is the album you want.
If you really want to delve deeper and research The Supreme's you need to ignore the singers and take a look at what's going on in the background.
Ross's tinny thin vocals were meant for nothing more than the car radio.
The soul's in the sound.

Here's a couple of my personal faves - Ooh Baby Baby by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles and This Old Heart Of Mine by The Isley Brothers.

I could mention many more as there are so many great songs to choose from... I'm Gonna Run Away From You - Tammi Lynn, Heaven Must Have Sent You - The Elgins, Ain't Too Proud To Beg - The Temptations... the list will go on and on I'm sure!!

Sorry I don't know how to put up the videos from youtube but I'm sure you all know the songs I am talking about.

cheers, David

Isley Brothers - Your Love Is My Love.
If ever there was a song to fall in love to, this is it.
Has a smooth floating quality...pure magic.

Personally I seem to love everything by Marvin ***e and the Temptations. And all the covers CCR does of it... but since we're on the topic of Motown. Wondering if anyone's seen this special that went around TV for a while?... Don't know the name of it but it talks a lot about the men who did all the background music for Motown, these men are called the Funk Brothers. Never got any credit or a dime for anything, until this thing aired on telly. It talks about their struggle, being black in that day and age and their UN-fame because of the no-credit. Then in the latter half of the special, it shows modern-day singers like Joan Osborne doing covers of their songs with the Funk Bro's doing their music. Swear to God, some of it is better than the original and the clips from back in the day are priceless. Shows the singers sitting down in bars and such, talking to these guys, trying to get some inspiration. It's a beautiful piece of documentary done on a great group of guys with an extraordinary talent.
