Raphael Sadiq

Has anyone tried out the new album?

His last one was pretty decent, and I just got a free download from starbucks for "100 yard dash." Its not the best song on the album but I think its a solid disc and I'd to get some headsup on whether or not its worth the cash.

In case you havn't heard him....

I didnt like it. It was the Amy Winehouse Back to Black formula, using tracks that sounded old school to ride the current popular wave trend. The devaluated the entire project for me.

TheBig3 10-06-2008 12:03 PM

On that one? Or are you refering to newer sounding things because that has a very motown 60's soul sound to it. It even extends to the style...?

No and it still says it's not available. Some vids are not available in the UK, maybe that is it.

TheBig3 10-07-2008 12:02 PM

see if you can dig it up though

Be here, last name might be Saadiq, but its worth your time.

jackhammer 10-08-2008 12:56 PM

That vid is pleasant enough but far too polished for me. Does he mix it up or is it more of the same?

TheBig3 10-08-2008 01:55 PM

be here sounds nothing like his new stuff, Let me try and grab a song for you...

"never give you up" has stevie wonder so that might be nice

but "love that girl" is coming up as a fan favorite.

jackhammer 10-08-2008 02:40 PM

I will check him out as he has promise.

I like Raphael. This latest album is based on the Motown sound

TheBig3 09-18-2009 10:23 AM

Yeah and thats sorta why I don't like it. He decided to be the male duffy.

Influence is great, hijacking is not.

I understand what you're saying but I feel that's a really broad brush stroke of the album.

If you're looking for a track to test out I'd listen to "Never Going to Give you Up". If you don't like it after 2:00 minutes you won't like the rest. But give the first 2 minutes a solid listen.

I'm not a huge fan of the album overall but I enjoy Saadiq's ability to create something that sounds like it's from another era. An era that was popular two decades before he was even born.

I really like this one

TheBig3 05-13-2011 02:50 PM

Better than the MoTown rips

Phzed 05-21-2011 10:17 AM

I've been meaning to download his albums for a while now and have never got round to it.
Downloading his first now.

Meh, not too impressed with the new album. Liked The Way I See It a lot better.

Haven't heard his older work, but the new album is great.
