I absolutely agree with Gandhara! Chaka Kahn is the best voice in Funk. I guess if there is no category for groovy. Chaka is underrated only because she isn't as popular. But her music with Rufus is so great -and her voice unbelievable!

But that Betty Davis sound -never heard it before. She is good -and pure funk!

Chaka was very versatile and could handle jazz and blues as well as r&b, funk and pop. The only reason she's not as popular today is because she's considered an "older" artist. Her heyday was in the mid-70s with Rufus to mid-80s where she peaked as a solo artist with "I Feel For You". She's mainly cited as a main influence to most modern r&b singers like Whitney Houston and Erykah Badu.
