Cameo - Changing With The Times?

With the debate continuing about Disco - Whether it's just commercial crap, produced in the hope of making a fast buck for someone - I guess Cameo might fit that catagory.

Formed in the early '70's, Cameo were as an eight piece Band, releasing tracks in true Funk style. By the '80's however only three members remained and they achieved success by re-inventing themselves with a completely different style that could really only be descibed as Disco - For Better Or For Worse?

I thought I'd add this to bridge the gap...that way it doesn't seem as dramatic. I listen to the word up album a hell of a lot, but I could understand how people might see it as a sell out...

I used to hate a lot of the 80's funk but it grew on me over time. There is a definite shift between most funk bands 70's output and there 80's stuff--probably explained by the introduction of prince, crack, and hip hop. I find it so cheesy that it's funky.

Another good 80's funk song is bar kays-your place or mine.

Cameo and the Bar-Kays had to be the funkiest bands of the 80s!!! I might add Ohio Players, Bootsy, and Funkadelic in there too.
Prince was pop compared to these bad ass mo fo's!!!

btw, i dont think Cameo changed that much, they just shifted like many other bands like them to a more 80s dance style sound. They were still funky as hell!!!

Cameo tried real hard to still be funky and change with the times. that's where the quirkyness and cheesyness came in to play!!! :D
