Ten soul albums I can't live without are?

For someone who is looking to get into soul, what are ten albums that I just cannot go without hearing?

Wilson Pickett-the exciting wilson picket
James Brown-sex machine(live)
Impressions-young mods forgotten story
Curtis Mayfield-s/t

I can't think of many albums, most soul singers were more singles focused.

Otis Redding - Otis Blue
The Isley Brothers - Givin' it Back
Wilson Pickett - The Wicked Pickett
Aretha Franklin - I never Loved a Man the Way I Love You
Little Milton - Grits Aint Groceries
Four Tops - Reach out
King Curtis - Live at Fillmore west
James Brown - Live at the Apollo
Curtis Mayfield - Curtis

Yeah, Musicbanter is informative as fuck! I would be seriously lacking in everything if it weren't for this site.

Before I came here I was scene kid who thought having 10 albums was alot.

Now I'm a jolly old fool who thinks his current collection of 250 albums is inadequate.

SATCHMO 07-20-2009 02:26 AM

C'mon! One full list of ten?

Bulldog 07-20-2009 03:21 AM

Just for a giggle, I'm gonna include compilations in this list.

The Temptations - Sky's the Limit
Smokey Robinson & the Miracles - Going To a Go-go
Marvin Gaye - What's Going On
Gladys Knght & the Pips - Nitty Gritty
Stevie Wonder - Innervisions
Beres Hammond - Soul Reggae
Isley Brothers - Forever Gold
Sam & Dave - The Very Best Of...
James Brown - Live At the Apollo
Otis Redding - Otis Blue
