The Black Seeds

Man, I thought surely we already had a thread on these guys. But seeing that we dont...

Here we have another band hailing from New Zealand, which seems to be putting out a stream of fantastic music. These guys are similar to Fat Freddy's Drop with the dub, reggae and soul sound, but have a little more funk and afrobeat thrown into the mix.

If you liked any of that, you should check out this website right now...they are giving away a free Summer Sampler download, which includes tracks from their last album Solid Ground and a few new ones as well. Check it!

The Black Seeds are wicked. But I'd say their sound is more reggae than funk though.

Here is a track by the frontman Barnaby Weir which was included on the Conscious Roots compilation. Very quirky, and the bassline is sick.

Here's a bit of trivia but you may already know: Bret MacKenzie from the Flight of the Concords used to be a member. This track has Bret on lead vocals, from the album Into the Dojo:

Brilliant Summer headphone music and this track is such a groupie magnet I'm sure!

Solid Ground is decent but I find the second half a bit weaker than the first. My fav track on it is probably this instrumental.
