Do you all think Sly and The Family Stone are the harshest tragedies in music?

I believe so and I've been a listener of theirs since 1969. Here's a band between 1968-1971 they were at their absolute peak in terms of live performances, musicianship, albums and could do no wrong, original members, some of the greatest protest music and then post 71... They were falling apart, Sly and Larry Graham's issues with each other, sleeping with Cynthia Robinson, drugs, no showing at shows, stoned during interviews (well back in their era we all assumed he was just drunk pre-internet years of course we didn't know better).

They managed to give us 1 last great album, Fresh but by that point in 73... It was over and their popularity faded a lot by then. I truly believe no one could touch that band circa 1969 at their peak (of course is subjective)

What do you all think?

Nope.

Well, it's certainly one of the most tragic things (in terms of "what could've been accomplished" or in terms of "a talent gone wrong"). They were after all one of the greatest, and it's a shame it all ended in the way it did (both for the band and for Sly Stone himself).

But THE harshest? No, I don't think so

Oh, I didn’t know that

Do you have an article or something about it?
