A little too smooth for me, I'm afraid. And they're from my hometown.

I have to admit that I hadn't heard of this before. Not bad, maybe not exactly my cup of tea. Nice baselines and rhythms, but still maybe not groovy enough for my taste. Or maybe groovy is not the right word here, but maybe more uptempo or something like that would be nice. Still not bad. Works in the right state of mind.

I think „groovy” applies just fine.

Their style reminds me a lot of The Meters or The Mandrills

... as for The Blackbyrds, I'll go with their album City Life.

Great group, started by the legendary[Donald Byrd].

Gilles Peterson's latest BBC6 show was dedicated to them. They even played some live tracks in the studio for him. Well worth a listen.
