Great movie soundtracks with awesome indie/alt music

i was just browsing my collection of albums and thought about all the great soundtracks there are, fillled with great indie/alt bands.... ie
the virgin suicides
the royal tennambaums
high fidelity
igby goes down
trainspotting

what are some of your faves?

David Frost 08-31-2004 03:25 PM

Lost in Translation has really good music in it. and there was this show on comedy central a long time ago... it was like a prank show from england, it always had really good tunes on it

franscar 08-31-2004 05:17 PM

The Comedy Central sketches were from Trigger Happy TV. A great show, and the soundtrack was made available for a while, all of it chosen by the guy who did all the sketches.

garden state has an awesoem sound track, just bought it and i've been listening to it non stop.

mercysblueeyes 09-16-2004 10:09 AM

I deffinitely agree with The Royal Tenenbaums, Garden State. Those kick!

Requiem For A Dream doesn't have Indie Music, but it is the most beautiful music ever written for a soundtrack. Get it.

Any Wes Anderson film has amazing music. (The Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore)

zekethefreak 09-01-2008 01:38 AM

I think ANY Wes Anderson film would qualify for a good soundtrack... ah, yes... the person above agreed. And yes, Zach Braff always seems to select good songs.
But, if you delve into some truly Indie films, you will find some truly Indie music.
I just saw the Aussie film, "Look Both Ways", and it had some INCREDIBLE music...

dac 09-01-2008 11:00 PM

garden state was indeed the ****

spark10036 09-02-2008 11:45 AM

I liked the soundtrack of 2007's "Once".It actually won the oscar for best song with "Falling Slowly", but I prefer "When your mind's made up".
All songs are by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova

Minstrel 09-02-2008 12:20 PM

Quentin Tarantino films tend to have a great mix of music, some mainstream, famous stuff, some lesser-known stuff.

rebkranz 10-09-2008 10:45 AM

I agree with Garden State and the Wes Anderson ones. I have to say, surprisingly, the OC soundtrack (tv) has some great music on it. Belle and Sebastian, Bright Eyes, Sufjan, etc. Pretty surprising. And Juno, I would add.

Davey Moore 10-10-2008 01:28 PM

Any movie that looks like it was remotely influenced by the Wes Anderson sort of quirky comedy will probably have Indy and older music from the 60s-70s in it. Sometimes an obscure track from a really popular artist.

FooFighting 06-06-2009 02:43 AM

I'm not sure what genre it is... but I love the music on
JUNO
It's so fun and happy!

Couldn't agree more.
Except, I think Once was my favorite from it.
Definitely deserved more than the minute it got during the credits of the movie.

I can't believe nobody said-Snatch

duga 01-20-2010 07:34 PM

here's another vote for lost in translation and wes anderson films. i found nick and norah's infinite playlist to actually have some pretty good stuff.

+81 01-23-2010 05:31 PM

The Squid and The Whale, The Tracey Fragments, and Shortbus all have great music.

Cadrian 01-23-2010 05:38 PM

I watched The Worlds Greatest Dad the other day... Great Movie, found 2 sounds on it that were indie they wheren't on the offical soundtrack the official soundtrack was Bruce Hornsby....

But I found two great Indie tracks when watching it I had to look up... I been enjoying both tracks but the Deadly Syndrome has become one of favs.

The Deadly Syndrome - I Hope I Become a Ghost

28 Days Later has probably the best soundtrack of all time.

An example:

downwardspiral 03-16-2010 08:43 AM

American Beauty is very good, it includes Eels, Elliott Smith, The Who, Gomez etc. And Also Garden State as mentioned previously. Umm, Cruel Intentions soundtrack is very good too! Particularly a tune on there by Kristen Barry called Ordinary Life - check it out, and you have the likes of Bare Jr, Placebo, Skunk Anansie, Fatboy Slim.

Good shout on the OC too! AMAZING soundtrack, i sat through the list and downloaded everything that appealed to me and got into some pretty good bands through it, wikipedia has a list of all the songs included on it but it wont let me put the link here since i have less than 15 posts.

Garden State has got a really great soundtrack. The Shins <3

LoathsomePete 09-03-2010 09:36 AM

The soundtrack to the movie Kids had some good artists on it, even if it was only like 4 or 5 individual artists. Slint, Sebadoh, Folk Implosion, Lo-Down, Daniel Johnson. There were a few other artists who didn't appear on the soundtrack, but were featured in the movie like The Beastie Boys, Jeru the Damaja, A Tribe Called Quest, Artifacts, and even John Coltrane.

Garden State's soundtrack

neverthesame 12-04-2010 10:03 AM

Singles.

Dodgy film, but the soundtrack contains some great (and sometimes unreleased) stuff from a lot of Seattle / grunge bands - Pearl Jam, Screaming Trees, Smashing Pumpkins, Mudhoney, Soundgarden, and even Jimi Hendrix. Outstanding stuff.

Pearl Jam and Soundgarden do a few cameos in the film too, if not others I've forgotten.

Truly believing The Replacements are the greatest band ever, I just cringed the first time I heard Paul Westerberg sing "Dyslexic Heart" from this one.
