Best Film Score (soundtrack, metal, genre, Radiohead, French)

Hey, I was wondering what everyone thought was the best film score they've heard?

NOTE: The difference between soundtrack and score, a la Wiki:

Firstly, cool thread idea.
Hmm.. having trouble thinking of scores, but for themes the first that spring to mind are 'Get Carter' and 'Seven Samurai'... I think people underestimate how a film can live or die on it's score and general soundtrack - 'Alien' ofcourse had everything in place to make it unforgettable.

More recently Jonny Greenwood's score for 'There Will Be Blood' really took me aback. 'Ghost Dog' had a great hip hop score.

I just have no love for the generic 64-piece orchestra John Williams epic blockbuster toss - and every other large scale release these days seems to have doomy choirs.

I still really like the Gladiator score. Hans Zimmer is fairly refreshing.

And I finally got to hear There Will Be Blood, it's pretty awesome. I wonder why he never got to do that kind of stuff with Radiohead?

i don't know but each forthcoming 'head release should have a crowd-pleasing side and a Jonny side. Gladiator definitely ticked all the requisite boxes for that genre..

Jerry Goldsmith was by far the most diverse and interesting of the big Hollywood composers imo, he passed away a few years ago. Jerry Goldsmith - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Beautifully composed by Hans Zimmer the great !.!.!.!

I said it on another thread, but Amelie is my favorite, if you've seen it you'll understand, if not, then go see it right now. I don't care that's it's french and you have to watch it with subtitles, it's the best movie ever made, haha.

they were cacophonous and unsettling to me, it wasn't exactly Psycho

I can't think of a Kubrick movie with a bad score - Shining, Full Metal Jacket (the final scene, what sounds like a heavy table being scraped across the floor of an amphitheatre), Clockwork Orange, Eyes Wide Shut (the scene where Cruise is being stalked to at creepy two-note piano phrase)
