The Beginner's Guide to Staring at Your Effects Pedals

Slowdive - Alison
Loop - Straight to Your Heart
My Bloody Valentine - When You Sleep
Galaxie 500 - Decomposing Trees
Skywave - Fire
Lush - For Love
Swirlies - Pancake
The Telescopes - The Perfect Needle
Spacemen 3 - Suicide
Pale Saints - Sight of You

Almost all of these songs appear in the "classic" shoegaze era (ca. 1989-1994), there's plenty of other great artists in the genre as well, these are simply some of my favorites.

NOTE: The egregious image actually is Kevin Shields' setup for their recent tour. I think there's at least thirty pedals there.

^^^^Nice choices right there

I have nearly all those songs anyway, but Alison, Decomposing Trees and Suicide are incredible tracks.

But it's still only three full-length albums though no matter how many variations of the tracklistings you post. It's easier to just find the three of them for oneself.

It's a bit hard with PIL, as they sound different on pretty much every album they'd released. In fact the only thing linking most of the albums is John Lydon's voice.

In a nutshell, the 1978-84 stuff is more left-of-centre, with some post-punk to it, a few dub rhythms and disco grooves, some post-rock and even a little bit of pop music in a couple of cases. The 1985-92 stuff's a lot more accessible on the whole, with more of a focus on hard rock sound in varying degrees from album to album.

As I say though, it's hard to explain.

You can make one if it annoys you.
