Two for the price of one:


Slayer still touring and pumping out high velocity Thrash since the early 80's and with the same line up (apart from a while in the 90's when drummer Dave Lombardo left to then rejoin in 2002) have the honour of having probably the heaviest and certainly the most intense album within the Metal fraternity with 1986's Reign In Blood.

Despite the intensity, Slayers music is relatively clean, unfussy and efficient, using widlly chaotic guitar solos, brutal but clear and concise vocals and of course superlative fast but controlled drumming.


Despite being active for well over 25 years it's depressing how unknown this band still are. Maybe it's the fact that mainstay and frontman Justin Sullivan still sings in accent or the fact that their lyrics are still incendinary concerning working class shackledom and the gradual erosion of our national identity through commercialism or is it because their music refuses to be pigeonholed- guitar music with the energy of Punk but laced with melody, a touch of Folk and a little brooding atmosphere now and again? Or is their Englishness a hindrance to them (they rarely tour the U.S and probably wouldn't be allowed in due to some of their lyrics!)

Whatever it is they still command an utterly loyal following and tour almost every year without fail and have never sold out or abandoned their beliefs. See what you think:

And Bulldog, that Pogues compilation was not only very enjoyable but made me realize that they're a lot more diverse than I thought. Songs such as Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah and Haunted didn't even sounds Irish at all! Oh and the Cohen link is working for me now:thumb:

I recognise one of those songs from back when I actually used to listen to Slayer, so I'll enjoy re-educating myself there! New Model Army sound really intriguing too, so I'll be checking both these out. Ta for the uploads!

Good to hear it :thumb: The Cohen comp's really quite long, so best to set aside a couple of hours and just listen to it all end-to-end. And, yeah, the Pogues are definitely a lot more diverse than a lot of people give them credit for. They've had the odd ventures into jazz and even dub (believe it or not!) that I probably should've highlighted there as well. Either way, glad to hear you dug it.

Could this be made a sticky so as to draw attention to the great compilations within?

Dude...I was hooked after the first 20 seconds of Emasculate the Masculine. This stuff is sick!
PS, I have downloaded most of these compilations, with the exception of the metal stuff. I'll comment later, once i've listened to most of it, but thanks so much for all these guys!

I'm glad you liked it. I was actually thinking of redoing that one and cutting it down a little.
