OK, 12 songs, that's not bad. It's just that not many people contributed this time. Anyway, I just started listening, will see how it goes.

Charlemagne 10-16-2010 12:07 PM

I thought I added some songs for contribution too. But they didn't have anything to do with Space, so I understand why they weren't included.

That said... I'm going to guess Sufjan was sent in by Stone Birds

dankrsta 10-16-2010 01:13 PM

I really enjoyed this. Excellent compilation, so many great tracks. In fact, there isn't one bad song here.

The Bullet 10-16-2010 03:37 PM

Dang, this project moves fast. Where was the submission thread? I had a good one, damn it.

of course :)

I'm considering visiting wallpaperdojo.com for FREE PC and cellphone wallpapers.

Did Conan get hacked?

I should hope not, that is the website from which I stole the picture from. I have changed it though, just in case.

Also there is no submissions thread, you PM me the songs you wish you use for the theme, which can be voted on.

No. It's fixed now but for a bit it was displaying an advert for that website in place of the space picture.

bob. 10-16-2010 06:42 PM

i have to agree this is a really solid compilation....

i'm curious LothsomePete....do you randomly select the order or listen to the track and create the mix accordingly?

this one and last months were done very well

so i'm pretty sure of two

Rosetta - LothsomPete
Tangerine Dream - Dankrsta

LoathsomePete 10-16-2010 06:47 PM

Normally I listen to everything ahead of time and then figure out which order they will go in, but I couldn't be arsed this time. I'm glad that my laziness hasn't come back to bite my ass and yes Rosetta was me, a fitting (but obvious) choice.

edit:

Also you're correct, Tangerine Dream was indeed Dankrsta

bob. 10-16-2010 06:48 PM

out of all of these i was really taken back by the Rosetta track....i loved it

LoathsomePete 10-16-2010 06:54 PM

The Galilean Satellites (2005) is a superb addition to the growing Post-Metal scene. It was actually a double album with one CD containing the metallic songs, and the other one featuring mostly ambient noise. You were then suppose to play both albums in sync, but I grabbed a digital version where both were already meshed, that's how they got such a deeply layered sound.

dankrsta 10-17-2010 08:04 AM

I have to say that the Rosetta track is indeed one of the stronger ones on the compilation. So that's post-metal? I think I just found what kind of metal I like. That's it, noisy and with vocals drowned in the walls of sound. Yep!

My guess is: Screeching Weasel - bob.

The Fascinating Turnip 10-17-2010 08:07 AM

Bollocks, Souvlaki Space Station would fit this compilation like a glove.

dankrsta 10-17-2010 08:12 AM

^^Oh yes, but I have to admit I didn't even think of it. And I'm actually quite surprised that nobody sent Pink Floyd - Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun. I wanted to submit that one, but I was almost sure somebody had already sent it. Guess not :(

bob. 10-17-2010 11:10 AM

i thought for sure that there would be a couple of pink floyd track

and yes to Screeching Weasel

LoathsomePete 10-17-2010 11:19 AM

I had a few other choices but figured everybody already knows Pink Floyd, what's the point. I like using these comps as a way of exposing people to bands they may not have heard before.

I also added a poll for which song best represents the theme.

bob. 10-17-2010 11:29 AM

LoathsomePete for Gift Of Gab?

LoathsomePete 10-17-2010 12:28 PM

Correct, easily my favorite hip hop song of 2009.

dankrsta 10-17-2010 01:39 PM

I'm gonna guess Julian Cope for Anteater.

LoathsomePete 10-17-2010 01:40 PM

Correct.

Anteater 10-18-2010 11:53 AM

Bob. is definitely Kraftwerk, while I bet dankrsta is responsible for the Sun Ra piece. :tramp:

This is a goddamn awesome compilation by the way...probably the best I've seen in three months or more.

Yep! You got me there.

I think Vaz is from bob.

bob. 10-18-2010 12:03 PM

i did submit Vaz

but not Kraftwerk....so i'll just have to say the obvious :)

dankrsta also submitted Kraftwerk

so anteater must have submitted Lemon Jelly(amazing track also!) and 4hero

and i agree the arrangement really came out well with this comp

dankrsta 10-18-2010 12:06 PM

Then Allerseelen is from bob. Amazing song, one of my favorite on the compilation. I've never heard of this band.

bob. 10-18-2010 01:19 PM

Allerseelen is for the most part a one man experiment from Austria.....he varies in Nietzsche inspired martial sounding industrial to more atmospheric neoclassical type stuff....this track is from an album by the same same....honestly the entire album is sort of a concept album dealing with the subject of nazi ufo conspiracy....a very interesting listen....Neuschwabenland being the supposed ufo base underneath Antarctica

dankrsta 10-18-2010 02:16 PM

^Thanks for the info. I might check that album then, cause that song is really good.

RVCA 10-18-2010 08:01 PM

That Lemon Jelly track was my favorite, but I think it would be a lot better if they didn't loop the "beautiful! just beautiful" soundbyte over and over.
