I think what really killed our domestic leagues was british television. Before most people could recieve the BBC the only way see a match was to support your local team, which is why there were fairly big attendances at league of Ireland games up the the end of the 70's. And then the arrival of Sky Sports and the Premiership made English football even more accessible and killed it off even more.

The closest thing to a local team I have is Marshall University's athletics teams. They're pretty heinous, to say the least.

I will admit that I saw three Marshall football games last season, front row, just off the 50 yard line as my friend is a huge Marshall fan and has season tickets. They were pretty horrible last year, but this year is far, far worse.

I've not been able to bring myself to see any of their games this year.

I live near the Philadelphia area and I don't support any Philly teams... or Pittsburgh teams for that matter. I root for Penn State but I am not a diehard. My fanhood is all over the place for different reasons. I'm a diehard Mets fan and also root for the Atlanta Falcons and Maryland in college basketball

i used to support the Kuala Lumpur soccer team

but they were all imports from other states and didn't really gel as a team

^ Are there female supporters there?

It could be an incentive.... I mean, in case you don't like the other 22 at the field.

13.71 miles away from my team, not bad. I was actually born in North London too. SO glad I'm not closer to Tottenham than I am Arsenal.
