Hunting/Sport/Firearm Thread

Well I doubt this will get any views and probably no posts unless maybe 90sKid runs across it. I just wanted a thread where anyone who hunts, whether it be bow or firearm or a knife tied to a stick can talk about it. Also any general firearm talk (handguns/rifles/shotguns/etc) can go here as well.

The main thing I would like to use this thread for is if anyone is wanting to maybe start collecting, hunting, or just buy there first firearm for home defense or whatever reason they may have short of robbing a store.

I guess I will start with a comment and then a question. I just ordered a Rock Island Armory Tactical 1911. Going to pick it up tomorrow. While I have my every day carry Sig Sauer P250sc, does anyone have any experience carrying a full size barrel (5")? I realize the best way is probably a shoulder holster but I really have not had any experience doing so.

Shoulder holster might be an option if your a skinny guy. Worried about the sight radius is that why your switching from a 3 or 4? I currently have an ancient ruger 22 rifle and i just purchased a 9mm from Ruger which I love.

No I am switching because I dont normally carry, so i I really need to I would rather have a little more discomfort and just use a full size.

Also I almost got that Sr9 instead of my p250, its a really nice piece. The entire Ruger poly line is great. How does it shoot?

My apologies on the late reply. I think it won't be a deal breaker if your ready to deal with some discomfort and the possibility of it being in view at times.

Strange I looked at the entire line of Sig Sauer's, and they are just such a beautiful piece. Having shot primarily Ruger's in the past I chose the Ruger last minute. It shoots great. I've heard of some issues others had with some pre-models that were out there. It moulds to the hand pretty well, i've also heard some gripes from people with huge hands, pickle fingers. My only gripe would be the size of the safety, its almost non existent, but not an issue for me overall. Overall its a very sound gun, i'd recommend it for both men and women. I still want to own a Sig one day, probably this xmas. I've shot a few friends and they're just very comfortable to fire.

While I really like my sig I recommend you save up for an all metal one. I cant say unless its for carry I am a big poly gun fan. Am picking up the 1911 tomorrow and will hopefully get a good picture to put up!

In handguns I prefer .380's and Glock 22's. Shotguns I prefer 20 gauges to hunt with. Lighter for a man with a back problem. Rifle? Hardly use, but I have a 49 year old .22 rifle handed down from my grandfather. It still shoots straight too. Maybe that is the scope.

Does anyone have suggestions/tips for buying used handguns or what have you in general, & in particular to ensure the rifling of the barrel isn't shot?

Make sure you are going to a reputable shop is the most important. If they have a good rep among people in the area then chances are you will be fine. If you cant find that out do some reading online on the best ways to check semi autos or revolvers for defects.

^^^ thanks.

I know they're not very practical..... but, I have a burning desire for a .357 lever action.

Just keep in mind that will be really expensive to practice with.
