Martial Arts thread

I do not see a lot in here. Where are the people who do them, and what do you take?

When I was younger I took a bit of Kung Fu, not enough to get by, but a little. Now that I am older I have got back into martial arts, I began doing Kali at a place here, it is a pretty interesting style.

What do people do here? or what interests you?

I did some judo as a kid, sucked at it and had zero fun.
Would be interested to take up boxing, but I somehow doubt I'll actually get around to.

Boxing is something I have always admired, but never took.

For me as a kid my issue was I had epilepsy, and was heavily medicated. So my concentration, focus and more was not very good. It stopped me from getting deeper into it.

I did MMA when I was younger, haven't messed around with anything except punching the bag in about 2 years.. During MMA I trained boxing, BJJ(no gi), and kick/thai boxing (hips are bad I can't kick well). Also, takedowns/trapping if you want to count that.

Did a couple knife defense classes which were really fun.

That sounds great.

I'd love a Krav Maga class in my city to try out, always been a style I think looks interesting.

Knife Defense is fun. Kali, the style I take is a bladed art. It focuses on all aspects of weapons combat

People will call anything art these days.

When I was a kid I did karate/daycare for six months or so, but apart from that I don't know any of them. That didn't stop me from teaching this hippy chick how to do "tai chi" though. I just made bull**** poses and held them for a while and she ate it up. Good times, made me want to know if real tai chi was like that.

BastardofYoung 08-05-2015 03:27 PM

Real Tai Chi is for sure not the same as the stuff you see grandmas doing in the park, thats just exercise. The true stuff to me is cool.

Thats awesome though haha.

Frownland does TaeBo with Billy Blanks.

I went to three karate lessons when I was 11, but quit after being thrown around by 9 and 10 year olds during sparring matches. My ego just couldn't handle it. But I wish I'd stuck at it.

Ya, like most of your recordings.

Did some weapon training many years ago.
