This is a myth. ^

United have averaged a higher attendance than City for every season, bar one, since 1945.
City fans like to pass that myth of as 'fact'.
Citeh's average attendance is around 45,000. United's 75,000.
Are you seriously suggesting that more than 30,000 United fans travel to Manchester every other week?

I did say 'seem to be' but thats just based on personal encounters with Mancunians. I don't live in Manchester so I wouldn't know personally.

My main question was that surely football related violence is more common in Glasgow that it is in a city like Manchester where most of the Reds i've ever met seem to have more beef with the scousers than they do City fans for a start.

Because there aren't that many City fans.
Seriously though. United/City rivalry has declined over the years, mainly because of the lack of competition from the blue side of town.

Lets get back to bursting the myth.
It’s funny how this myth goes around that Manchester is a City supporting location. Mancunians opt to support the blues, whilst United's fanbase (if you listen to a blue) comes from the home counties. Admittedly United have a large Irish fanbase, but then again, they always have had.
More City fans in Manchester than United? Of course, this is perfect logic, isn’t it? One of the most widely supported clubs in the World couldn’t possible appeal to people from Manchester, could it? We’d all shun United and support City, obviously.

The same myth doesn’t apply to Liverpool, or any other two-team city though. You’d never catch someone saying ‘proper scousers support Everton, not Liverpool’, yet for some reason, the same moronic statement is applied to Manchester and Mancunians.

^ For the hard of thinking the above is typed with a heavy dose of sarcasm.

Here's a response to City's 'Welcome to Manchester' (feat. Tevez) billboard seen around town lately.

Most two team cities don't have such a divide between the two clubs in pretty much every measurable way. Most two team cities aren't home to a club with such a high level of support in every corner of the world.

When I said that there SEEMS to be more City fans that is because of all the Mancunians I have ever met, the majority have been Blues by a big, big margin. I can see why for an outsider looking in it may appear to be the case.

I have never claimed that there were ACTUALLY more City fans in Manchester than United. If I had, i would have been armed with statistics to back it up.
