Guitar tones (cassette, fan, amps, covers, solo)

What are your favorite tones to use, or different combinations? (ex. distortion, reverb, and slight delay)

i use between 9 and 13 pedals and at least 2 amps when i play. my tone is like the ocean.

i'm not joking.

dude thats awesome. sadly i dont have the money to buy 9-13 pedals =[ but i do have a Line 6 GuitarPort which is pretty neat. But i also have a 50W VOX combo amp. But im just tryin to find that perfect tone that i could play with for hours

it's just a matter of collecting one piece at a time over the course of years. my cousin was a big fan of line 6 products. he's got a first generation 'pod' thing. it's nifty but i'd rather use a stack of pedals.

besides, the 'perfect' tone only exists if you're trying to create an easily recreated product. no matter how many pedals i use my tone will never be perfect but it will always be mine.

yeah, everyone's got that unique sound. but im still tryin to find mine

good luck with that. i didn't actually start finding and developing my own sound until i started playing with people who forced me to improvise and learn how to consider my instrument from a different perspective (5 years after i started)

covers are fine to learn technique with and a fair way to make beer money at the local pub if that's your thing. i didn't start learning how to really project my own voice through my instrument until i ditched the idea of covers and stopped worrying about playing guitar and just tried playing music instead.

yeah, im not into playing other people's stuff too much. I only try to learn the techniques they use to improve my playing. I also only try to use a similar tone they use to try to mix and match with other tones to see which ones are good for soloing and which ones are better for rhythm.

Yeah, i've tried to ditch playing covers, but for me, its hard trying to write my own music because i really dont have anybody to play with, and i dont have a recorder to record some chords to solo over so its pretty hard

i hear you all too well. i'm stuck in a similar situation at the moment. i have a ton of gear surrounding me but no actual way to properly use it due to the loss of my jam room.

what i usually end up doing to practice improvising lead is just noodle over music i have on my computer. regardless of whether or not there's even supposed to be a guitar track.

hmm, thats a good idea. i think i'll try that. but im thinking about buying a recorder, even a cheap one, to record just some simple chords and just play over them.

whatever works. you can get pretty cheap recording gear now too. i used to use a cheap cassette recorder back in the day for simple practice things. no multitrack or anything like that, just hit the play and record buttons and captured the sound in the room.
