Microphone Amplifiers... (metal, band)

I am shopping for a microphone amplifier for a recently formed sludge/ doom metal band, and I was wondering what I need to get. Are there specific types of amps for microphones, and is there anything else I need to purchase other than the microphone and the amp? Thanks for the help in advance...

Do you mean a pre-amp for recording or an amp for live? If for Live and rehearsals I would suggest you buy a small PA.
Better still go and rehearse in a nice rehearsal room like mine.
