Audacity
 

I thought this would be the best place to put it in. I'm using audacity to edit some audio clips for a multimedia photo presentation. I've got about 8 or 9 audio clips that need to be cut up and spliced together to create one 3-ish minute audio file. Most have to be cut down to about half the length, and with some of the longer clips I'll want parts of it in one portion of the final audio clip, and other parts coming in at later times.

Anyone want to give me a quick tutorial on how to do all this?

I tried to do this myself.
After I layed the audio tracks together and saved them to a file, I wanted to open this file in windows movie maker, I got the reply: download lame_enc.dll which I did and it worked, it's a long time ago since I done this and can't remember exactly how.. Don't know if this helps jibber, hope so though.. This lame_enc.dll seemed to be the annser for me though..

Need to trim the beginning and the end of the song? Simply drag and click on the beginning section all the way up to where the song starts. Go to Edit and click delete. Repeat the same procedure for the end. Save the song, export it in mp3.

cheers guys, appreciate the help. I did figure it out before long, and kyberpaddy, yeah i had to download a plugin in order to be able to export it as an mp3 file. also i stopped being stubborn and clicked through an online tutorial, that helped too.

hi ive a question if anyone can tell me _ after recording the first track and i go to record the second track for some reason the first track wont play while the second is recording this means that i cant hear what i am playing over. It used to work before but for some reason doesnt anymore.if there is some setting that has to be changed or if you know how to fix it please tell me . much appreciated thanks:banghead:

uh basically an easy way to do it is:
1. import all the files to one audacity window (i think they might have to be wma files but im not sure). so, click 'project', then 'import audio'

2. click 'project' then 'new audio track'. this gives you a blank track to past all the parts into.

3. cut up all the part you want just highlighting the parts and cutting/pasting.

4. paste into the empty track in the order you want your remix thing to be.

then you can delete all the original audio tracks so you are left with the single one u want to play.

keirancahill- go to 'edit', 'preferences', then under tab 'audio |/0' you can check off the option 'play other tracks while recording new one' and it should work. there might be a delay between wats being played back to you and wat its recording, so use headphones instead of your computer speakers that should work

Figured I'd post my Audacity related question here... Trying to rip some backing tracks out of songs, but when I do it I'm still getting faint audio. Not sure if there's a way to fix it - may be s.o.l. - but thought I'd ask before I give up.

For my first one, a test, I took MF DOOM's "Rapp Snitch Knishes", split the stereo track, inverted the right (bottom) track, set both to mono, exported to mp3 (merges tracks to one), opened it back up and used the 'amplify' effect to reduce the dB to -5.0... and yet, still can hear faint vocals playing in the final project.

Any other tricks?

I assume you've been reading about frequency cancellation on the web.
You've obviously been experiencing the realities of how this does not work in the context of a full mix. People don't obtain true a cappellas or instrumentals that way. What you're trying is a theoretical work-around that doesn't produce usable results.
Due to the broad frequency spectrum that most instruments share with the vocal range in context with most mixes, you're not going to be able to isolate one or the other without completely de-voiding one or the other's needed frequencies unless there are very special circumstances in regards to how the track is mixed.

I'm not totally sure of what you're trying to achieve, but if it's worth anything, I think it's at least worth mentioning.

Pretty much the exactly reality I've run into. It takes me about 90% to where I'm looking to get. While with some songs the vocals are barely audible, they are still there and somewhat noticeable.

I'm not trying to be the next mashup superstar, but I like looping some instrumentals and mixing them differently just to play as background stuff while studying or drinking. It's been frustrating since I can't find backing tracks for songs I'm looking for. I have to rely on ripping **** from youtube, but a lot of stuff still just isn't available and the quality seems diminished.
