Help recording on the move?
 

Hey all, I'm new to the board and am hoping to find some help.

I do a lot of improvisational singing/rapping, and I would like to record some of it so that I can use it as a source of fresh lyric ideas. I have a digital recorder (Sony ICD-P520) with a clip on microphone (i'm not worried about quality, I would like to be able to record as I drive, walk, etc.)

My problem is that I cannot record 2 inputs simultaniously. I can connect my ipod and record the instrumental, or I can connect my microphone and record my vocals (both via the only 1/8th inch jack on the device).

I have attempted to use a headphone splitter, but for some reason this does not make the 2 incoming sounds converge (normally a splitter takes 1 output and makes it 2, I would like to take 2 inputs and make it 1).

Is what I am trying to do possible? What would be the best way for me to be able to record on the go? I simply want to record my vocals and ipod simultaneously, 1 track is fine.

(I also have zoom PS-04 palmtop studio, but the PS must stand for piece of **** because it only has about 15 minutes of recording time. I need a minimum of a few hours worth of time)

Tascam DR-1 Pocket Recorder

Zoom makes some affordable ones (the H2, the H4). I like the H4 because it is one of the few recorders out there with XLR inputs instead of 1/8" or 1/4" inputs.

He already bought the Tascam.
