Does anybody know the name of this effect used in some songs?
 

Hi everyone. In some songs, people use this effect that sometimes sounds almost like a bunch of people singing together in the background, and sometimes a keyboard holding a single note for a period of time, to give songs a "mystical" effect.
The only song/video I could find right off the bat is like this one: (Sorry I have to post the link in bits, it says because I am a newbie I have to have lots points to post real links.)

In the background it is like a synthisizer, holding a single note and changing it every now and then
WHAT IS THIS CALLED? Does this kind of music have a specific name or something, or is the sound called something special?
(Do you know any good songs like this? PLEASE post!)

Um... The vocals have delay on them.
And in the background a pad is being played on a synthesizer separately. It isn't one single effect. The vocals just have a long delay on them. Probably using a couple different delay instances set at different durations and timing.

The music itself, style-wise, is noted as Chillout on the vid's info. Seems about right.

Also, something that gives the spatial sensation here is the excess of reverb with long decay. 4 seconds or more.:yikes:

Probably. It would have to be set with a narrow low-pass filter or something though, or possibly reverbed via send and the send channel EQ'd and leveled separate from the main vocal and then compressed.
If you just throw fully wet reverb on a vocal and set the decay that long, it'd sound like it was being sung in a cave.

I've gotten vocals to sound the way the girl in the clip sounds, but I'm sure there are other methods than my own.

"Chorus" maybe, but also usually synth holding a note or chord for an extended period of time is a "Synth Pad"
