What's a good mic for a beginner?

Hi i just started to begin to rap. Im 14 year old Male. If that matters.
Anyways i was just wondering what microphone would be good for a beginner like me? It should be at a reasonable price would prefer one with pop filter as well and must connect to a computer through usb or whatever.

Thank you,
KenGmusic1

you'll want to look at the Shure SM-58. the 57s and 58s are pretty much THE industry standard workhorse and somewhere around $100 if i remember right. the 58 comes with a pop filter. it's like $5 more if you want a model with an on/off switch.

here's the kicker though... a XLR (typical mic cable end) to USB adapter runs about $80. you'd likely be better off getting an actual USB sound recording interface like the m-audio fast track for just a little more.

A Blue Snowball microphone isn't bad but if you're doing multi-track recording its not the best to use

are you looking for a mic for playing live or for recording?

I've used this one a couple of times in different studios. It does a decent job for it's price range.

C1 - Studio Recording Microphone

Of course, a preamp and interface (which may or may not include a mic pre) are required.

For example: I have an M-Audio "Transit" that I use for editing and it connects to my computer via 2.0. The only input is line-in so I'd need to buy a mic pre in order to record with a microphone.

Other M-Audio products have mic preamps and are USB devices.

I am interested in this also - is there any dirt cheap ones anyone can recommend?Doesn't need to be unbelievably good, just good enough to make out a voice say.

Don't skimp on cheap condenser mics. If you must go for something cheap try the AKG C4000b. It is a pretty decent quality mic.
