Over the ear Headphones. Need serious help!!
 

I'm huge into music, it's pretty much my life. I'm looking to buy new headphones and I want to get over the ear/studio ones. I've been researching the heck out of them but it's so hard.
At first I wanted Beats Studio's because I have iBeats and love them and I would only assume I would love the Studio's as well. I love how they look, and I know they sound "good", and the noise cancellation is great. But I've read/watched so many reviews and very few are good, and so many are bad.
I've looked into a lot of others as well. But I figured I would come here and ask others opinions.
I would like to spend no more than $200, 300 at the most.

Anything made by Beats or Monster is trash. Utter, sheer, abject trash. They're overpriced, they underperform, and the sound is tremendously bass heavy without being able to properly resolve that bass.

Go listen to a pair of Grado SR60s or SR80s and you'll swiftly discover that for sound quality, even the low end of Grado headphones absolutely STOMPS all over the entire Beats range.

When and where do you plan on using the headphones the most? Inside? Outside? Sitting at a desk? Moving around? Wired to an iPod? Wireless from your pc? Open or Closed ear design?

Best I've ever put on my head were Sennheiser HD515s, they've since been discontinued and replaced with 518s. Not exactly sure what the difference is besides aesthetics. Open ear, wired, HUGE pads, super comfort even over glasses, and great sound quality. Just don't wear them while doing a high energy activity or you'll destroy the foam padding with your sweat.

Audio Technica ATH-M50:
closed back so noise blocking and bassier but with a slightly more "compressed" sound

Audio Technica ADH700:
open back so no noise blocking and reduced bass but with a cleaner and more surrounding sound

They both cost about the same and are well in your range

If you go any more expensive you'll probably need a headphone amp and these are fine without

I have a pair of Grados SR-80s, absolutely love them.

Grado FTW on this one if your budgeted a bit. AudioTechnica are fairly easy to come by used as well as far as a less expensive, in person purchase.

I would recommend one of the Sennheiser audiophile headphones, Hd 518, Hd 558 or Hd 598. I would say that they have a balanced, neutral sound.
I have owned Hd 518 and i now own Hd 598. hd 518 have more bass then the Hd 598.
