Best way to adapt a microphone for computer

Hey there I just got a mic but I need to buy a cable to plug into my computer for recording. Are there pros and cons between the mic jack and the usb slots? Is there a better way to go about this?

It's just easier with usb & it all depends on the quality of your Micondensor is what I use

you need a pre amp to amplifiy the mics signal and an audio card to convert the signal from analog to digital so the computer can record the signal. Some usb devices do both

As far as I know, you should avoid the mic input because it has lower sound quality. If you're gonna use a minijack, see if you can use the line in instead.

Do you have an audio interface? The easiest way to go about it, while maintaining quality, is to get an audio interface with a nice preamp, either usb or firewire, and plug your mic into it using xlr.
