NEED HELP firguring out what gear to buy to get started in electronic music
 

Hello, I'm a multi-instrument player who has been looking to start a band since I started high school (I'm a senior now), and having been unable to find other musicians, want to try something different. I want to start a project either alone or with one other guitarist in which I am going to play psychedelic electronic rock music drawing inspiration from artists such as the Disco Biscuits, Papadosio, STS9, Neon Indian, Ott, Shpongle, and pretty much anything different and out there. My goal is to play guitar while simultaneously operating electronic equipment (assuming this is possible). Now here is my problem. I have no experience in electronic music and don't even know what kind of equipment to look for. I'm assuming I should look for something similar to the band Cherub's setup. If somebody could identify the equipment they're using and point me in the direction of a reasonably priced (preferably under $1500) set of equipment it would be very helpful to me as a musician. Or if this isn't something that can really be accomplished with no experience in electronica, feel free to burst my bubble.

I would suggest getting ableton live, a launch pad, a drumpad of some sort, an alesis qx49 or some other cheap controller, fruity loops couldn't hurt.

first and foremost though I would listen, to a ton, TON of it, EDM has more sub genres than you can imagine. In fact 90% of the time when some one calls something dubstep, they are wrong.

that video is pretty gnarly. But anyway, would I be able to operate such a setup by myself or would I need more people? Also what's a ballpark price for it?

You can save money on guitar amps and pedals if you use guitar amp and guitar fx software simulation Amplitube free. ACDC used this on their last album.

With that setup you will have a virtual studio that's easy drag and drop and be able to plug lots of instruments in as well as use virtual instruments and mix and master it all in your laptop. You can record one instrument at a time and mix them together, edit make it all fit then export to wave files or MP3, upload it to soundcloud to show it off.

KVR Forums is the best place to ask these kind of questions they know all the technical things. I'm not sure which RME product to use but you get an external one for a laptop that will allow you to plug lots of instruments into Ableton Live and it will run ASIO driver which allows audio from different instruments to run through your computer with out a delay.

U-he make the best software synthesizers to add to digital studios/ DAWS. Control software synthesizers with a midi controller such as Novation 61SL MKII. this midi controller comes with a lite version of Ableton Live 8.

I use Ableton Live 8 I'm a one man band I do 80s type metal and I do EDM trancy stuff.
