Dad almost Blind, Need help with his music please!
 

My dad is pretty much blind now, so television is not a good source of entertainment for him , but he loves his music. He is still using a cd player that just broke which is hooked up to a receiver and then to his speakers, he likes it loud. I have convinced him to ditch the 700cd collection he has and we are now trying to move to digital. PROBLEM- I need to find something that uses SD cards (each SD card would be a different style of music, easy to switch) and it will also need to hook into existing receiver. Lastly , it needs to be simple to use and inexpensive. Please help me find something.

I haven't looked into this much, but I see a lot of good talk about Sansa Clips. I just googled it and it looks they are compatible with microSD cards. I'm not quite sure how much that would set you back, or about your receiver.

I'd still recommend an iPod, but I understand that you want specific genres on separate cards.

Why has this been moved into "Name that tune"???

Anyway: when you say that you convinced your dad to ditch his CD collection and went digital, I'm assuming you didn't actually get rid of them, but just ripped them to the computer, yes?

If so, why not use the PC/Mac and a media program? You wouldn't need SD cards as you could have each genre/group/whatever in separate subfolders and you or he could select the one he wanted to listen to, hit Play All and away you go. Even normal Windows Media Player would suffice. If he's finding it hard to see then he wouldn't need the visualisations and other doodads that come with most media players, but he could (or you could) select the one that best suited his needs. Most are free, and you can't get more inexpensive than that. Plus the PC could easily be hooked up to his amp/speakers and it's even possible software could be bought/downloaded that would respond to simple voice commands?
