Does anyone know anything about home recording?
 

Before you say anything, I know there is a forum for it, but no one goes there. Ok, I've been writing for a while now and I wanna put it to a cd. However, I've been looking at mics that can hook straight up to my laptop cause I got that Fruity loops program from a friend. I saw a little mic-->eq-->usb port, for about a hundred bucks, Ill post it here if anything knows about brands. I'm completely new at this so any help is appreciated. Thanks again guys.

hmm first of all, fruity loops isnt going to get you too far. its mostly for brainstorming which is why it only costs like 100 bucks. you ever want to get serious look into sonar cakewalk version 3 i believe. its mighty expensive but itll sound awesome, pretty much professional if you know how to mix. if you can afford it great cuz pirating it is risky, thats what my brother did though. hmm as far as microphones go if you go to like a guitar center near you they are really helpful in getting you set up in that department. as for specific brands im not sure...its good to get a pop filter if you dontalready have one though on a sidenote. sorry if this wasnt much help haha.

I think Ic an jsut hook a mic to that and go straight to my computer. Correct?

Oh yea, I'm a TOTAL newbie when it comes to mixing, so the easiest program you could recommenf you be better, lol.

hmm that looks right but you may want to double check with a better source than myself. the only reason im familiar with the programs and such is because my brother does iot all the time. but i do know that if you're inexperienced with mixing that you fruity loops is probably the best prgram to start with. it would help to buy a book on it too they have them at guitar center i believer as well. theyre a but pricey but theres good info in them. above all its a learning experience experiment and see how it goes. i remember listening to a few of my brothers first recording and looking at the ones hes done now its crzy that he did it with the same program because it sounds so much better. anyways good luck and you might want to get a second opinion about that mic thing but im pretty sure it will work.

^^^^^^^I couldn't have said it better myself. As far as mics go, you get what you pay for. the only good option for cheap multipurpose microphones is a shure SM-57, and even that will only get you so far if you don't know a lot about audio tech. knowledge. But yeah, to the best of my knowledge fruity loops doesn't allow outside source recording even if it did you would need a DA converter and possibly a mic preamp to make it worth your while.
My best advice: save some money buy a mac (emacs start at @ $800) it has multitracking software built into its core software package (Garageband2). Mac's also have an audiounits core audio system built in so there's no need to buy a soundcard, which, on a PC, you would likely also have to upgrade for what you want to do. Oh, and I'm moving this thread to the production forum.

Well I JUST got a laptop about a month ago, I wouldnt LOVED a mac but it was a grad present. Do you think you can leave this thread here? I think more people would see it. But anyways, I can pirate software (shhhh) so what would you expect?

People are going to see this thread anyway. If it dies out they might not, but I will get more requests to move it than your one request to keep it in the emo forum where it doesn't belong. Like Speaknspell said go with Sonar or I would even reccomend Cubase, but get the scaled down version of either program because there's alot of complicated stuff to deal with.

They're microphones. They convert acoustic waves into electrical signals. That's what microhone's do.

lol. thanks for that. But I need a mixer or eq that hooks up to the laptop via usb though. Were you suggesting those mics to go WITH that thing I posted?
