getting started on becoming a producer?

So, I've often wondered what it would be like to be a producer professionally. I'm sure I'm not the only one here and I'm sure there's a few members who do this for a living. Any advice on getting on the way? Recommended schools/programs/etc?

Learn how to record in a studio, learn music theory, learn fundementals of playing songs, learn so many things, you dont start being a producer you work up to it.

As giorgio moroder said, just listen to the recording of the music

Just learn to enjoy the sound

If you like the sound you know you are producing music correctly

The simple and literal answer to the question would be to contact bands and offer to pay their studio fees in exchange for a percentage of the profits. But more realistically, you could buy some recording equipment/software and charge people to use it, eventually building up to owning a studio as you make more money and gain a reputation within the musical community. Most producers find it much easier if you start off as a musician and network within the community, so that when you start recording, people are willing to come to your label and give you a chance.

Knowing and understanding music is the first step. Learn to play as many instruments as you can because at some point your going to use all of them as a producer. I've been doing it for about 3 years now and it seems like every day i learn something new. most importantly though is you have to keep learning and getting better because it can be aggravating at times. Start off by buying some inexpensive recording equipment and fool around a little and see if its something you really wanna do. if so take it to the next level. hope this helped good luck!
