If you haven't got one yet, you should get a burwood one, with a lunchbox amp ( AKA, small square amp ), with built in overdrive.. And triple pickups.. $100... Can't beat it..

I would go with a cheap guitar because if you're just learning how to play than practice on a cheap guitar than train your way up because that's what I did and I am in a band now or was in one....

you don't need a great guitar to start off but you need to make sure you don't get a duffer, ie warped neck, out of tune frets, etc. take along someone who plays to help you buy

I would recommend Washburn wr-150. It's made in China but extremely well done. 150 bucks only.
