A cheap one that works, don't blow money on a decent guitar till you know a bit and are sure you wanna continue. Wal-Mart or K-Mart or one of those kind of stores usually sells first acts pretty cheap, they're kind of lame for serious playing but great for learning.

just go to a toy store yo, they got ones that play the music for you

They're awesome.

Just kidding, I'm about to buy my first as well. I just shopped online and the one I want is WAY too much money so I will probably buy an Epiphone until I can afford my Gibson. Who would have thought at 32 I would be buying my first guitar?? Can you say mid life crisis??

I'm not liking this person at all, you should really be banned.

go for a semi acoustic, a cheap one, it makes strengthening the fingers a lot easier, you can use an amp if you choose but you dont have to and if your a beginner you wont need 30 odd fretts neways.
i'd recomment something a little bit better than an encore but nothing too expensive unless you really don't mind splashing out the money and know your gonna stick with it.

Would have never thought.

Oh and to the thread starter I suggest getting a guitar that you will like and not want to get rid of. I still have my first guitar and bust it out if I wanna get some metal (bah! me trying to play metal) going. Oh, and if you are going to get serious and this is for later on in your playing but go for a new amp before guitar. Most of your tone is in how you play but if you are using a sh*t amp your own sound won't get across. If you were to tell us what kinds of music you like it would be easier to direct you to a good guitar for that style.

Its probably best if you checkout which one that suits you, ie sounds the best, handles the best, feels the best ect, you can give a music shop a budget and they will help you find a guitar that really suits you.

Remember, a good musician can make a **** instrument sound good, and a bad musician can make a good instrument sound bad, try not to worry about what equipment you have, and remember to practice lots!

yea, that or just go to Walmart, like Crowquill just said, get a First Act or something of that nature. Get something playable, even if its ****ty, then if you learn to cope with that, then getting a nicer guitar will be simply a breeze to play, if you take my meaning.

Once you get good, then you can waste the money on thousand dollar guitars, I personally love Gibson, their my favorite and a great brand.

So yea, my suggestions.
