Why drums are so cool

Here's a couple reasons why I think drums are so cool.

1- They have awesome sound

2- A way to impress girls lol

3- Great way to relieve stress

4- Cool thing to listen to and watch out for in your favorite bands

Anyone have any other reasons for why drums are so cool?

:dj:

Drums are the backbone of a song, they set the tempo, etc.

Yah true

I am in a band and the song doesn't sound right without the drums in it

4- Cool thing to listen to and watch out for in your favorite bands

1- Only if your good at them

2- Only if your not an ugly fucker-which most drummers are

3- Not as good as drugs...or not getting stressed in the first place

4- Unless your favorite band is HIM, in which case the drummer is awful...

Spikey 04-09-2006 09:18 AM

Wow you guys.. Well done. Pick on the drummer.

I like drummers. Especially if they're good looking and a good drummer impresses. If they can play then good on them :) It's like if someone plays the guitar well, or bass well. It's impressive. They are the backbone to a song.

Hello there drummers lol :wavey:

ShadowSurfer 04-09-2006 12:31 PM

drums are not an instrument, they are percussive.
you hit them as hard as you can and make as much noise as you can which is why most drummers go crazy.

Spikey 04-09-2006 01:06 PM

hahahahahahahaahahahahahhaha true ^^ soooo true

bungalow 04-09-2006 01:14 PM

If you agree that drums are not instruments, then you are just as dumb as he is.

Spikey 04-09-2006 01:15 PM

I meant the go crazy part.

Does it sound right without the guitar or bass?

You are retarded, you get on a pair of drums and try to play a good beat and see how easy it is, without drums we wouldnt have GOOD music, so think before you talk about an instrument!:usehead:

Good job Spencer, now say KISS sucks and you'll be the most favorite n00b.

ShadowSurfer 04-11-2006 12:30 AM

drums are not a musical instrument.

they are percussion/rhythym. not pitches, not notes.

Drums are not a musical instrument, regardless of what you and your grade 8 freinds think.

I don't know how you posted that dear but drums do have pitches. They can be used to make music hence they are a musical instrument. But since you are still banned I can say this and not expect a dumb arguement back from you.

thebassistX 04-11-2006 07:19 PM

uh the drum is an instrument and its not just noise or sound that drums produce its a NODE which is half way between a note and noise

therefore there is still harmonic content making it an instrument

i think

Exactly, thank you for making my point, thebassistx, a lot coming from a bassist.

kiki chunt 04-11-2006 08:19 PM

What do you call someone who hangs around with musicians?

. . . a drummer!
(Sorry . . . just couldn't believe no-one else had posted it yet)

"2- A way to impress girls lol" . . . WHERE did you get that idea from?
Most girls are more into the pretty lead singer / guitarist than that sweaty maniac hidden behind him. And I'm not sure it was a part of the motivation for (say) Maureen Tucker or Sheila E to pick up the sticks either . . .

Drums are still way cool. First instrument of shamanism, still the one that really makes you dance and trance. And it's pointless arguing if they're a musical instrument or not - much like disputing whether black and white are really colours: maybe they ain't, but you're f***ed trying to paint anything without them.

Sandy Nelson and John Bonham. It's all cool.

(Jaki Liebezeit is God's drum machine)

"keep banging the rocks together guys"

Blain 04-15-2006 08:31 PM

Dude are you serious, the guy who said you hit them as hard as you can go crazy, if you hit them as hard as you can being uncoordinated its a horrible noise!! have you ever tried playing a beat that sounds good its not going crazy it acctually gets really hard most things to make it osund good is softer so dude your full of crap going crazy you also need speed which if you can't right with both hands and kick with both feet is really ahrd.

ShadowSurfer 04-17-2006 10:09 AM

well, of course the drummer should have great timing, okay, having said that, then it's all about hitting the drums as powerful as possible, at least in the kind of music I play. A limp hitting drummer won't cut it. Yes, timiing is important, but so is hitting those suckers as hard as you can, with as much power as you can. Playing with an easy touch is great for a lounge act. In my music, you have to slam them babies, nothing less is acceptable. volume and power.

20 years later, most drummers have gone crazy from hitting these objects as hard as possible, all in an effort to make as loud a noise as possible.

It's called hearing loss, not going crazy.

Holding a solid groove IS important, but there is also a little thing called dynamics. You will get nowhere as a musician without playing dynamically.

thebassistX 04-21-2006 09:17 PM

uh whats ur point? lol i though this was about if the drums was an instrument or not also drums can play dynamically as well~

I'm not going to join the argument of whether drums are an instrument or not. Anyone with a rock for a brain knows that the drums are a musical instrument. I'm simply commenting on ShadowSurfer's logic.
