Elixers are definitely good.

zdaddy 11-15-2007 03:27 PM

D'Addario EJ26 11-52 Custom Lights

Kevorkian Logic 11-17-2007 09:35 AM

Dominant for my viola, they are superior by far. I'm using a Pirastro Tonica right now for my A string, and it's almost painful to listen to.

TheCaster 11-23-2007 07:11 PM

Super bullets i guess the best verb for them is standard... pretty good overall

PerFeCTioNThrUSileNCe 11-26-2007 07:51 PM

I just put a set of Ernie Ball Beefy Slinky on my Iceman. Good god they're brutal. Heavy as hell but they sound really full and solid.

anticipation 11-26-2007 08:04 PM

the heaviest i can find.

thickest gauge is the proper term, i suppose.

PerFeCTioNThrUSileNCe 11-26-2007 11:29 PM

What gauge do you usually buy?

I used to be a huge fan of 12's, but then I realized I wasn't S.R.V. so I stepped it down to tens, now I use Slinky Top Heavy Bottoms (top three are from a set of tens, bottom from a set of elevens) and those Beefy Slinky's on my backup (it's an 11-52 set, whereas normal 11's would go 11-48).

i think the lightest i've ever played were the 11's you're talking about. the ones with the wound G's?

right now i have 12-54's and i hate them. their much too loose and leinient. i usually play with 13-56's, because i can't stand light strings.

PerFeCTioNThrUSileNCe 11-27-2007 11:19 PM

Wow. 12's are to loose? Those are huge... What kind of music are you playing?

and 13's.......Are you playing a baritone guitar?

anticipation 11-28-2007 02:31 PM

It's not the kind of music, in fact I'm usually finger picking when I play.
I just play with extra heavys because my father used them on his guitars and that's what i learned with.

and no, it's a regular danelectro from 93'.
i do have a baritone though :)

PerFeCTioNThrUSileNCe 11-28-2007 03:45 PM

I can't imagine what gauge is on that.

This is an electric guitar we're talking about right?

anticipation 12-01-2007 11:04 AM

yeppers :)

PerFeCTioNThrUSileNCe 12-04-2007 01:35 PM

Neck bow?

Drackula 12-13-2007 09:30 PM

i use Di addario 9s.

under 12-25-2007 10:17 PM

custom gauge nickel wound

Teitzi 12-26-2007 10:57 AM

Well I use Rotosounds on my Ovation acoustic, Ernie Balls on my Tele, D'addarios on my Danelectro and my Dobro I use D'Addario 16-56 and so on..

PerFeCTioNThrUSileNCe 12-26-2007 11:43 AM

I just got a couple sets of Ernie Ball Power Slinkies. I'm gonna try those out when I get to band practice today.

TheCaster 12-30-2007 12:28 PM

ive kept the same set of super bullets for like 4 months playing 30min-4hrs day.... im thinking about switching to some ernie balls as those seem to be rather popular... but the super bullets are still soundin good so maybe they're magic or something cause there lasting an awfully long time

MD23 01-05-2008 11:28 AM

I play acoustic and use martin m104 i think they're called...

Music Resource 01-05-2008 11:44 AM

Do they turn your fingers black when you play?

TheCaster 01-07-2008 06:19 AM

Not really they start to look kinda dirtyish but not completely black. They are starting to feel kinda rusty (only adjective i can think to fit it) so ima switch them out pretty soon. U think ernie balls are good? and if so wich kind of ernie ball?

spook 01-16-2008 09:39 AM

For Electric guitar it's Dean Markeleys every time, for acoustic, Martin bronze with a wound 3rd, and for bass usually Elites or Rotosound can't be beaten.

xtrabenbassist15 01-24-2008 02:02 PM

i use GHS boomers on both my electric guitar and electric bass and on my acoustic i use D'Addario EJ16 Phosphor Bronze Light Guitar Strings

GuitarBizarre 01-26-2008 12:19 PM

D'addario .009 - .042 sets on my Ibanez S, 10-46 on my Viper, and Any set of 12's I can get my mitts on that aren't made by rotosound, on my acoustics.

dog 02-01-2008 02:30 AM

i use light dean markleys. i think elixir string arent that different to dean markley, or dadario

Inuzuka Skysword 02-01-2008 02:18 PM

For acoustic guitar I use elixers.

tkpb938 02-02-2008 11:20 AM

Basses are nice because you rarely have to replace strings. I can't imagine someone breaking the E-string.

SATCHMO 02-02-2008 09:59 PM

I usually play Dean Markley Custom gauge (Light E,A,D heavy G,B,E), but I pretty much reccomend anything except for Elixirs. They're great if you don't like changing strings, but the coating on them dampens the tone and makes them sound dull IMO.

scott.gotcha 04-30-2008 05:21 PM

I use elixers, Dean Markley and other brands turn my fingers black.

mr dave 04-30-2008 05:51 PM

i've been using d'addario strings for 15 years. i've tried a few other brands in the past and was never satisfied, the other brands usually popped relatively quickly.

i use .10s for standard tuning
.12s or .13s(if i can find them) for tuning down to C
flatwounds for bass, not sure on the gauge but the low B is effing huge.

Roivas 05-01-2008 09:59 AM

Anyone ever see a set of 12 guage electric gtr strings with an unwound G?

mr dave 05-01-2008 10:57 AM

yup. ernie ball has a pack called 'not even slinky', it's green. .12s with a plain G. although i'm pretty sure those were the strings i was using when both my G and B strings popped simultaneously.

i'm also positive d'addario has sets of .12s with a plain G as i have some on my guitar right now, i just can't find the packaging.

a plain G at that gauge does feel a little weird though.

Roivas 05-01-2008 11:33 AM

Thanks.

I'll have to try a set and see what I think.

After the final decision, I'll have the guitar set up for that gauge and shielded.

mr dave 05-01-2008 01:52 PM

no worries. i've never dared trying to tune 12s up to standard though. they're a little loose at C, would probably work best at D. crazy nice low tone when it's down 2 steps though.

Roivas 05-01-2008 02:41 PM

That's totally Slipknot, dude.

mr dave 05-01-2008 03:07 PM

i guess so haha but i was going for josh homme tone.

Whatsitoosit 05-02-2008 01:56 PM

For Electric: D'addario (10's)
For Acoustic: Elixir

FireInCairo 08-15-2008 07:21 AM

im not hugely fussy but i tend towards d'addario standard 10-46
or the equivalent ernie ball super slinkys

The Unfan 08-16-2008 06:32 PM

D'addario 12s. I love the thick sound they have.
