i've been using d'addario strings for 15 years. i've tried a few other brands in the past and was never satisfied, the other brands usually popped relatively quickly.
i use .10s for standard tuning .12s or .13s(if i can find them) for tuning down to C flatwounds for bass, not sure on the gauge but the low B is effing huge. |
Anyone ever see a set of 12 guage electric gtr strings with an unwound G?
|
yup. ernie ball has a pack called 'not even slinky', it's green. .12s with a plain G. although i'm pretty sure those were the strings i was using when both my G and B strings popped simultaneously.
i'm also positive d'addario has sets of .12s with a plain G as i have some on my guitar right now, i just can't find the packaging. a plain G at that gauge does feel a little weird though. |
Thanks.
I'll have to try a set and see what I think. After the final decision, I'll have the guitar set up for that gauge and shielded. |
no worries. i've never dared trying to tune 12s up to standard though. they're a little loose at C, would probably work best at D. crazy nice low tone when it's down 2 steps though.

That's totally Slipknot, dude.
|
i guess so haha but i was going for josh homme tone.

For Electric: D'addario (10's)
For Acoustic: Elixir |
im not hugely fussy but i tend towards d'addario standard 10-46
or the equivalent ernie ball super slinkys |
D'addario 12s. I love the thick sound they have.
