wait, are you implying you work with musicians? my curiosity is piqued.

i would say that it definitely takes a combination of both talent and hard work. but i feel like that should be pretty obvious.

I've been a sometimes serious, sometimes casual musician for, I guess I can say, the majority of my life, and I have also worked professionally in the music industry as a recording/live sound engineer.

Probably not any that you've heard of (i'm trying to think). A great Hypnotic percussion Band from NYC called Mecca Bodega has thanked the company I worked for: Moon Dog Sound, on a few of their CD'S. Most of the bands wev'e worked with have been independent "jam bands". there's a sorta' defunct Jazz fusion band that i love from Boston called Schleigho, and we did their on-sight live recording for their album Live at the Ho-Down (the Ho-Down is their annual 3 day music festival). I've done considerably more live engineering than studio stuff here's a list of some noteworthy musicians i've worked with, some of them are obscure and probably mean more to me than those that have never heard them:
Derek Trucks Band
The Wailers
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones
The Pietasters
Toots and the Maytals
Asleep at the Wheel
H2O
John Brown's Body
Richie Havens
Doc Watson
David Grisman
Gatemouth Brown
Soulive
Midtown
Gym Class Heroes
Robert Randolph

And that's just a few

That would be a fun group to work with.

Yeah, it was, and When I worked with them the band would take little set breaks to let the drummer, This gigantic eccentric black guy get on the organ and make up impromptu songs that were absolutely hilarious. everyone was on the verge of tears!

and you've worked with bela fleck! that's pretty awesome.

SATCHMO 03-18-2008 05:34 PM
