The Shred Thread.

Recently, I've been guitar shopping/fucking around in guitar center and I've played some really REALLY awsome guitars. One of the most recent was the Ibanez RGA121. The thing is amazingly playable.....moreso than my ESP Custom...and it's got a great tone and everything....in my opinion, it's what I and most people I know would consider an extremely shreddable guitar.

Now this is not to say that my ESP doesn't shred because let me tell you....it shreds like a beast. I also have a lower end Ibanez RG350DX on layaway at Guitar Center. For only being 335 bucks....the thing plays like a dream. It actually played better than a PRS I played. (and this wasn't a low end SE PRS...this was the real deal.....about 1800 bucks worth of the real deal). The thing is amazing.

So...as a result of my shopping/fuckingaround, I have come to the conclusion that Ibanez guitars are officially the most shreddable guitars on the market today. If any of you beg to differ....or please share......and include pictures....

Post also if you have an extremely playable/shreddable guitar as well....I want to see them...

i agree about them being the most shredable, a lot of shredders use them..me personally, i love the feeling, i can always feel like i can play faster.

I'm not big on shredding, not that I don't admire players that can use speed to their advantage (like John Mcclaughlin) I just dislike players who play fast just for the sake of doing it, or more or less players who feel the urge to play every note as fast as they can just to impress, without considering how damn horrible it sounds, like Rusty Cooley.

I do like Steve Vai, who has the abillity to play really fast but remaining creative and melodic at the same time, at least when he chooses to be.

But I'd be damned if I didn't admit that shreders tend to have the coolest guitars.

I've always wanted a 555-BK.
I got to play one once at a show, and it was just the sexiest thing ever.

I hate to be an elitist or anything....but...many guitars beat a strat. I'm not saying they're bad guitars....they're great guitars....but in terms of neck speed, and general playability, my opinion is that the Strat is inferior to quite a number of guitars.

It gets the job done for me though. granted I'm sooner to pick up a bass than a guitar but it's rather solid (as in durable).

the strat isn't the best thing fender invented. I like telecasters more (for some reason)

Nonsense. Before Steve Vai had an Ibanez, he was shredding on a Fender Strat.
In fact, alot of early Vai material is done on a Fender Strat. It was his first guitar. He played it in Zappa and right up to the Roth albums.
He also played Jacksons.

Yngwie had no problems playing fast on a Fender Strat. Blackmore and Uli ROth also shredded on Fender Strats,

There is no comparison between a 62 Fender Strat and an Ibanez, sorry..it's all in how you set up the guitar.

you're not being an elitist by saying a guitar is inferior to another. you're an elitist if you believe you are above other people, not when your opinion differs with a guitar.

Many people choose Strats because of it's simplicity, it may lack all these cool features other brands have, but people just like the way it sounds... It has a unique "nasty" sound, which is why it's so popular among punk and hard rock bands.

I'm all for Gibsons myself (wish I actually f*cking had one), my favorite guitar has to be the Gibson ES-175.

Steve Howe's weapon of choice, and a beautiful, beautiful tone overall, It's also argubly the best Jazz guitar there is... Of course this is off topic for a thread about shredding, but it would be awesome to hear Steve Vai try out one of these babies.

I think Chris from the Living End uses that guitar. Though... I can see differences, But what would I know, I don't know jack about guitars

Here's a picture of my collection (minus my acoustic). These, in my opinion, are shredders.
